What we collect
- If you buy or list: the email you give us, your order details, listing text, and the payment details PayPal sends us (name, payer email, amount, transaction ID). We never receive card numbers.
- If you subscribe to alerts: your email and what you subscribed to.
- If you report a listing or an error: the report and a salted, one-way hash of your network address (to count reports from different networks).
- Page views: a count per page per day, using a one-way hash of your network address with a salt that changes daily. No cookies, no tracking across pages or days.
What we don't do
No tracking cookies, third-party analytics services, social-media pixels or embedded maps. The only outside service the pages load is the adengine.us ad described under Advertising; everything else loads from lakepennsylvania.org. We don't sell or share your data.
Advertising
Pages on this site show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. The banner is separate from the Sponsored listings on lake pages.
It sits below the page content on the home page, lake pages, Lakes A–Z and the other lake lists, county pages, the 'Lakes near' pages, Rules, Check my boat, Safety certificate, Is there a Lake Pennsylvania?, Data, Changes, About and Help. It never appears on checkout, order, library, listing, alert or report pages, the Printable Edition and My Boat's Lakes pages, Advertise, Terms, Privacy, Refunds, the Sponsored listings policy or Accessibility, and it is left out when a page is printed.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address (IP address), your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your network address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your network address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (network address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
How long we keep it
Orders and payment records: 7 years, for tax and accounting; payer contact details in them are removed after 18 months (amounts, dates and PayPal transaction IDs stay). Raw PayPal notification logs: 400 days. Error reports: 400 days. Raw page-view records: 120 days (daily counts are kept).
We send only emails about your orders, listings and the alerts you asked for. Alerts and reminders include a one-click unsubscribe.
Your choices
See or delete your data from your library ('Delete my data'). Payment records we must keep stay, without your contact details.
